In these times when image is so important, Beauty and Perfection go hand in hand.

So, what is beauty? Ana Margarida Carvalho believes that beauty lies on what make us different, but not necessarily perfect. For instance, the wrinkles in someone’s face can tell us a lot about a person joys and perils.

Wrinkles are not only a symbol of time past, but also a first clue of the many layers of one’s being. As such, different and even hidden layers, although disruptive or disturbing they might be, can also be alluring and beautiful at the same time.

The inspiration for this work came from her life experiences and surrounding world. A smile that carves its wrinkles in an old women’s face, her personal memories, but also dark and tough experiences that can hide many bright ones.

Apart from the colorful carved Perspex, sometimes hidden by anodized titanium, each piece with its and multiple layers is a tribute to that imperfect beauty. Ana hopes people proudly wear these brooches like badges of honor.
